Job Description
Experience and Qualifications: High School graduate or GED preferred. Certified as a Personal Care Aide (PCA) through completion of an approved NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) or NYS Education Department (NYSED) training program or through an approved NYSDOH competency testing curriculum. Prior experience in homecare, caregiving or a related setting preferred. Demonstrated ability to approach clients with compassion, empathy and respect for their individuality and cultural background. Able to read and write, understand and follow written and verbal direction and instructions, record messages and keep simple records. Ability to follow care plans and adapt to the changing needs of the clients. Communicates effectively with clients, families, Stafkings and other team members. Must undergo a criminal history record check as required by NYS Department of Health Rules and Regulations governing Licensed Home Care Services Agencies (LHCSAs).
Competency/Skill Requirements: Experience providing care for individuals in a homecare or related setting preferred. Demonstrates positive interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Maintains confidentiality, remains open to others’ ideas and exhibits willingness to learn. Adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change or unexpected events. Ability to work cooperatively and get along with others. Exhibits dependability and is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance. Complies with and agrees to uphold Stafkings Healthcare Systems’ “Code of Conduct”.
Working Environment: Travel as required within the community, client homes, and facilities such as doctor offices, hospitals, dialysis centers, emergency rooms, etc. as necessary in order to be with the client. Must be able to walk, sit, stand, reach or stretch for various lengths of time as associated with working and traveling within the community and to clients’ homes. Ability to perform tasks that involve physical demands such as lifting, bending and assisting clients with mobility. In-home lifting requires up to 50 lbs. independently and up to 325 pounds utilizing an assisted device. Potential travel in inclement weather.
