We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Billing & Coding Specialist to support the review, processing, and verification of medical invoices and documentation. This part-time role is ideal for someone with strong medical coding knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and experience working with healthcare providers and billing teams. The position requires accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
Schedule
20 hours per week
Shift/schedule to be discussed during the interview
Responsibilities
Perform clerical duties using knowledge of medical terminology and billing procedures
Serve as a liaison between providers, billers, medical offices, the Bureau of Health Services, and Accounts Payable
Review and process patient charges by analyzing invoices/bills containing CPT codes
Ensure services billed align with agreed-upon fee schedules; adjust invoice fees when necessary
Collaborate with the Bureau of Health Services to verify documentation and billing accuracy
Manage provider agreements related to fee schedules and ensure correct billing application
Process incoming and outgoing correspondence related to vendor invoices and billing matters
Sort and deliver invoices/bills to the appropriate personnel
Qualifications
Certification in medical coding or completed training/courses in medical coding, billing, and medical terminology
Experience with NYS Medicaid coding and billing
Prior experience in healthcare, medical coding, medical billing, and customer service
Strong working knowledge of coding standards, billing processes, and documentation requirements
Ability to work closely with healthcare providers to ensure accurate, compliant documentation
Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and organization
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and SFS software
